How to... make goldfish sun catchers

Thought I would write a How to for my goldfish that I made for Chinese New Year. They are considered lucky at this time of year especially due to their association with abundance of gold.

Goldfish Sun Catchers

You will need:
  • sticky back plastic
  • orange/yellow tissue paper squares
  • permanent marker
  • scissors
  • goldfish colouring or outline
What to do:
  1. Print out a simple goldfish colouring or outline (mine was from Activity Village) and blue-tak a piece of sticky back plastic over the top, shiny side up.

2. Using a black permanent marker, trace over the lines of the drawing.

3. Peel off the stick back plastic and cover the drawing with small pieces of tissue paper. I used a combination of yellow and orange. Allow the pieces to overlap slightly.

4. Cut out the goldfish. (You can cover the tissue paper with a second piece of sticky back plastic, however, I chose to leave it open since that side could face the window).

5. Display in the window.

How to... make stained glass windows

Another 'How to...', please please post a comment if you try it out!

Glitter Stained Glass Windows

You will need:
  • Sticky back plastic (A5 size) x 2
  • Black card (A5 size)
  • Easy Christmas colourings
  • Wool
  • Glitter
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
What to do:

1. Fold card in half and use the ruler to mark out a smaller rectangle from the folded side (I usually do this for the children).

2. Cut out the small rectangle.

3. Stick one piece of sticky back plastic onto the frame (adult help needed)

4. Place the colouring underneath the frame (sticky-side up!)

5. Use wool to mark out the lines of the picture.

6. Sprinkle glitter into each part of the picture.

7. Seal the glitter with another piece of sticky back plastic (adult help needed).

8. Display in a window.

How to... make advent wreaths

Thought I would try a instructional post today. One of my favourite activities to do with my littlies.

Paper Plate Advent Wreaths

You will need:
  • Paper plate
  • Green paper (with leaf template on optional)
  • Red card
  • White card
  • Orange tissue paper
  • Sticky tape
  • Glue

What to do:

1. Cut out leaf shapes and stick on the paper plate to create a circle.

2. Roll 4 red pieces of card and secure with sticky tape.

3. Make short cuts at the bottom, so you can fold out flaps and stick to the middle of the plate.

4. Roll a white piece of card and secure in the same manner.
(I got distracted and forgot to take a picture of this stage!)

5. Add orange tissue paper to make flames.

6. The finished collection!

I took photos of each littlie holding their advent wreath which will be used to make a display with lettering from Primary Treasure Chest. Before we made these we had discussed what each part of the wreath symbolises and they wrote their responses to using candles to remember.
